Goldner String Quartet with Piers Lane

Monday, 20 September, 2021
7:30pm – 9:30pm

  • JANKOWSKI String Quartet no1 Kairos
  • DVOŘÁK String Quartet no 12 in F major, op 96 ‘American’
  • ELGAR Piano Quintet in A minor, op 84

Formed in 1995 in honour of Richard Goldner, founder of Musica Viva Australia, The Goldner String Quartet has enjoyed widespread and long-standing recognition for excellence as Australia’s pre-eminent string quartet. This performance is joined by one of Australia’s beloved pianist, Piers Lane.

The concert features emerging  Adelaide composer Jakub Jankowski’s new String Quartet composed in 2020. Elgar’s big bold Piano Quintet, inspired by the rural beauty of his country retreat, is unabashedly romantic with an expansive symphonic sweep.  Followed by one of the most popular works in all chamber music, Dvorák’s ‘American’ quartet, assimilating both Bohemian and Afro-American folk influences.
